Highstreet Makeup Under £5

Thursday, August 27, 2015

The high street is pretty amazing when it comes to beauty products. There are endless brands and a constant stream of new products, not to mention the high quality!  So I thought I would share with you my favourite products under £5.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer
(£4.19 - 4 shades)
Hands down the best full coverage concealer on the high street. I know so many fellow bloggers that love this too. I use this every time I apply makeup on to blemishes. Also the lightest shade is pretty fair and suitable for most pale skin.

MUA Nail Polishes
(£1.00 each)
Much nicer looking after being repackaged recently (like dinky Essie polishes - sneaky!).
There are so many lovely shades in the range to choose from, all of which have cute names. My personal favourites are Kola Bear and Honey Shine!

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Translucent
(£3.99)
I've recently started using this powder. It helps to mattify the skin/t-zone without looking cakey or deepening the colour of your foundation.

Maybelline Colour Tattoos
 (£4.99 each - 10 shades)
Ohhh these are so pretty! Great dupes for the MAC Paint Pots as they are a firm cream eyeshadow that are highly pigmented in some amazing metallic and smokey shades. My Favourite shades - Pink Gold, and On and On Bronze.

MUA Undress Me Too Palette
(£4.00)
If you've been looking for a good neutral/metallic eye shadow palette or have been wanting a cheaper alternative to the Urban Decay Naked palette then look no further! This is incredible value for money as it contains 12 pigmented eye shadows!

Collection 2000 Shimmer Shades - Blushalicious
(£3.99)
This is practically 5 blushes in one with 4 cubes that you can use separately or all together. It's very long lasting on the cheeks and non-shimmery. What more could you want!

Have you tried any of these products? If so, what are your favourites?

W7 The Cheeky Trio

Tuesday, August 25, 2015

W7 is often a brand that get's overlooked, and it's not stocked in many places so the brand could easily pass you by. However, there budget friendly products are great quality products.

The all-in-one palette opens to reveal a trio of bronzer, blush and highlight colours, which are perfect for achieving glowing cheekbones.

I could have very easily swatched there shades from a NARS palette - a warning bronze, a pink coral blusher shade and a highlighter, however the shades are where any similarity with NARS ends. The colours are intensely pigmented yet they blend out beautifully! The powders have a very soft texture to them and they aren't chalky at all!

Personally they only downside to this palette for me is that the highlighter isn't all that illuminating for the tops of my cheek bones (however that could just be because I am used to using more shimmery powders) That said the highlighter does work perfectly to put under my brow bone and on my cupids bow.

The palette cost around £4.99 and can be purchased from ASDA, B&M, TKMaxx and  Next (in select stores)
.

Have you tried any W7 products? I'd love to read about which products your loving!

My Favoruite Lipstick

Thursday, August 20, 2015

I've never really been much of a lipstick fan, but after buying Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in shade 08 and I'm in love! I have used Rimmel London foundation for a long time, but I've never really tried any of their other products until now.

Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in 08 is a beautiful dusty rose shade, a classic your lips but better shade, that everyone is always on the hunt for! So it's perfect for those days when you really don't want to think about what shade to wear on your lips and it will look good with everything!

The lipstick is extremely soft and it sweeps across the lips like a dream! I also like the fact that the lipstick isn't completely matte but isn't like a gloss; it's somewhere in-between so it makes your lips look healthy without making them wet. It is also really comfortable on the lips and doesn't dry them out at all!

This lipstick claims to last for up to 8 hours. I'd say if you're not eating/drinking it can come close to that, but if you are our for a meal it probably lasts around maybe 4 hours until it has completely wore off!
Overall I am really impressed with this lipstick and I plan to buy more shades from the collection!
Have you tried any of Rimmel's Kate Moss lipsticks? If so I'd love to know what your favorite shade is!

10 Free Home Decor Ideas

Tuesday, August 18, 2015

There are lots of ways that you can update your home décor for FREE, but not everyone knows what simple things can make such a BIG difference! So in this post I am going to be sharing 13 ideas with you as to how you can update your home without it costing you a penny!

1. Use old paint you have taking up space in the garage or shed, in new ways. Perk up a table or a wooden chair that have seen better days by painting them in a bright, unexpected shade, or use painter’s tape to section off stripes to create a funky look.

2. Dig out those fabric swatches you can’t bear to part with. They might be just the right size to re-cover your old throw cushions for your sofa or bed. Floral prints, stripes or gingham are fun for the summer, especially if the colour scheme is similar so you can mix and match!

3.  Do you have boxes of photos that never get seen? Pull out some favourite and replace your old framed photographs with these ‘new’ ones. Group them in odd numbers on walls, shelves, coffee tables or mantles.

4.  Re-arrange the furniture in a room. Sometimes just something as simple as changing the layout of a room can make the world of difference! Rethink what rooms your furniture could go in, why not move a small chair into your bedroom, near a window for a nice reading nook?

5. Put old wallpaper to good use by using pieces to create pretty drawer liners.

6. Create a new headboard from a beautiful blanket or quilt. Just fold it neatly over the bed frame or existing headboard for a nice shot of fresh.

7. If you have outdoor gardens, with flowers in bloom, cut some and bring them inside to enjoy in the house.

8.  Mix two colours of bathroom towels on the racks and in baskets, rather than always reaching for a stack of the same shade. Try mixing your mint with aqua or turquoise with white.

9.  Repurpose small, empty bottles to become single bloom vases. We like clear glass in varied sizes and heights. Group in clusters.

10. Pull out those baskets you keep forgetting about and put them to good use to house magazines and books you’re presently reading at your bedside.

5 Tips And Tricks To Keep Up With Fashion Trends

Thursday, August 06, 2015

Everybody likes to look their best, regardless of their age or size. One way of doing so is by keeping up with the latest fashion trends but how do you do that? Well, here are my top 5 tips and tricks to help you keep up with all the latest fashions and look fabulous!

1. Check out the high street
you should always start with your local high street, as it's here that you will find all the latest fashion trends at a reasonable price. Buyers for high street shops will have been following catwalk designer shows closely to help them decide what clothes to stock in the shops, so they will know what's hot and what's not!

2. Mix and match
A great way to keep up with the latest fashion trends is to mix and match designer and high street clothes. This way you could even have a very simple, basic high street pair of jeans for example and team them with a very fashionable designer top. This will make your outfit look not just up-to-the-minute trendy but also expensive!

3. Accessorise
Some fashion trends may be a bit much for day-to-day life so a great tip for keeping up with trends without looking over the top is to accessories. Teaming a scarf from the latest fashion trend or a statement piece of jewellery with a simple outfit can keep it up to date but also wearable!

4. Read fashion magazines
Fashion magazines are great for tips on keeping up with the latest fashion trends. Most fashion journalists know about upcoming trends months in advance so you even get some time to prepare for them!

5. Play copycat
A good way of finding out what fashion trends will work for you is to copy other women. Look for women who are a similar age and size to you and see how they are wearing the latest trends then take inspiration from them. Some women just have a knack of putting outfits together and if you’re not one of them then take tips from them instead!

How I Deep Clean My Make Up Brushes

Tuesday, August 04, 2015

To deep clean my make up brushes I like to use Carex Moisture Plus hand soap. I like this soap of few reasons, firstly it smells clean and fresh and it leaves your brushes smelling lovely once they are dried. Also as it is a moisturising soap it doesn't dry out the bristles of my bush and leaves them feeling incredibly soft! Lastly, because Carex soaps kill 99.9% of bacteria, meaning that it contains anti-bacterial properties which are perfect to get rid of all the dirt and grime off your brushes!

When deep cleaning my make up brushes, I start off by wetting the brush hairs a little under the tap, being sure not to get the ferrule (the metal part in which holds the bristles and handle in place) too wet as this could damage your brushes, ending up in your brush malting or the bristles falling out! No one wants that to happen, so you've been warned!

I then put a pump of the soap onto either my hand or the brush hairs, and swirl it around in my hand to get rid of the dirt.  Depending on the type of brush and what you use it for, it may take a couple of rinses with the soap and water before it runs clear.  I should also say it is really satisfying seeing all the colourful grime that comes out of the brushes. (gross, haha!)

After cleaning with the soap, I also like to give each brush a quick towel dry, I do this my rubbing each brush in a circular motion on a flannel, I then reshape the brush and set it aside to dry. NEVER leave them standing up to dry whilst wet as the water can trickle down to the ferrule of the brush and damage the brush. (Again this can cause the brush to malt and the bristles to fall out!)

If like me you, the major part of your brush collection is made up of real technique brushes, then the travel pouch the sets come with is the perfect thing to use to stand your brushes in, whilst they dry! Use the toggle on the string to turn the pouch into a stand then place all your brushes in it, bristles facing downward to dry out. That way any water left in the bristles falls off the end of the brush rather than running down into the ferrule of the brush.

I like to wash my brushes every couple of weeks and I find for me a Sunday afternoon is the best time, as then I can leave them to dry over night so they are ready for use the next morning!

I hope you’ve picked up a few little tips from this post and are feeling inspired to get a-washing!
